Khar Education Society, a Gujarati Minority Welfare Trust, was formed in 1934. It took over 'Bal-Mandir' which had started in 1930, added further classes, and named it 'Sharda Mandir' in 1933 at Khar, Mumbai and brought it under its banner. "My Pupil's Own School" was started by late Shri Jahangirji Vakil and Shrimati Kunvarbai J. Vakil, at the instance of our first Prime Minister Shri. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1929 at Pune (The school shifted to Vile Parle, Mumbai, in 1931). It amalgamated with Sharda Mandir. Then it was named Shri M.M. Pupil's Own School and Sharda Mandir. It has a very long list of illustrious alumni who have successfully made great names and fame in fields such as social work, industry, science, arts, politics, and other fields. The alumni includes Mr. S.P. Godrej, Mr. Atul Motilal Setalvad, and philanthropists Mr. Mahendra Nanavati, and Mr. Chatrabhuj Narsee, Justice Sujata Manohar, Mrs. Tina Ambani, Mr. Kirit Somaiya, Ms. Falguni Pathak, and many other stalwarts. Late Mrs. Indira Gandhi - Former Prime Minister of India, as a child was also a student at the school for some time. Many respected leaders of India, educators and prominent personalities visited and blessed the school. Some of them are Bapuji, Rajaji, and Gurudev Tagore. Also present were Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, Smt. Sarojini Naidu, Shri. Jawaharlal Nehru, Shri. Gijubhai Badheka, Smt. Tara Ben Modak, Smt. Dakshina Murty, Shri. Uday Shankar, and a slew of other leaders, educators, and well-known individuals. The alumni of the school are professionals from all over the world and are very active and well-connected with each other through the Alumni Association.
